Doris Day reflects on her Hollywood career

In the new issue of Closer Weekly – on newsstands now – Doris Day reflects on her Hollywood career and co-stars. Which of her leading men was the best kisser? In typically modest Doris fashion, the very private film icon tells Closer, “Even at age 90, a girl never kisses and tells!”

ON MOONLIGHT BAY (1951) “This was one of several films I made with the wonderful Gordon MacRae. It was fun and sweet and captured a more innocent time,” Doris tells Closer.

CALAMITY JANE (1953) As the rootin’-tootin’ Western legend, she tamed Howard Keel’s Wild Bill Hickok. “I’ve always been a tomboy at heart, so I had a ball filming it — and the fans seem to love it, too. It has some great songs, including ‘Secret Love.’”

PILLOW TALK (1959) Doris and Rock Hudson fall madly in love while sharing a phone line in this box-office smash. “This sophisticated romantic comedy was considered a bit risqué in its time. It was the first of three films I made with Rock. We hit it off immediately and laughed ourselves silly.”

THE THRILL OF IT ALL (1963) “I liked playing a wife and mother torn between her family and her career. It was also my first film with James Garner — a sweet, funny man who remains my buddy.”

WITH SIX YOU GET EGGROLL (1968) “This was my last film, and I think it captured the challenges of blended families with great humor. Brian and I improvised some of our scenes — he was such a joy to work with.”
