Burt Reynoldz seeking to reinvent himself

Although Burt Reynolds is facing foreclosure and frail health, Closer has learned that the seasoned actor is looking to reinvent himself.

“He’s spoken to Sally about re-teaming on a project,” a friend exclusively shares with Closer of Burt’s Smokey and the Bandit co-star — and onetime girlfriend — Sally Field. “He’s a gambler and he’s hoping for a hot streak again.”

Burt’s buddy Clint Eastwood could also help him bring in a high-paying project – which would help greatly during his ongoing financial struggles. “Clint has talked to Burt about working together once more. He wants to see Burt back on his feet as much as anyone,” Burt’s friend reveals.

Mel Brooks, too, raves to Closer that he would jump at the chance to reunite with Burt on the big screen: “I love Burt,” Mel raves to Closer in the new issue. “He’s a witty guy who never leaned on his good looks. He was in Silent Movie and asked for a certain amount of money. I cut it in half and he just took it. No argument. So thank you, Burt, for taking half of your salary.”

That may not have been a wise financial decision for Burt in the end, but his love for the craft has always meant more to Burt than the money.

“Here’s a guy who was at the top of his game and what does he do with his money and time? He invests it in a theater in Jupiter, Florida,” John D’Aquino, a former student of Burt’s, exclusively tells Closer of the theater Burt opened in 1979. “It was very expensive to do and I think he sunk all his money into it. It was financial suicide.”

“Burt is selfless and he has a passion for helping other people,” Lisa Soland, one of Burt’s former apprentices, tells Closer. “You don’t go out there and start a small theater when you’re thinking of just yourself. He’s a gift and he always taught us to pay it forward.”-CLOSER WEEKLY
